Little Brother
When one of Los Angles' major bridges is bombed, the Department of Homeland Security takes it upon themselves to capture anyone near the bomb site, including Marcus and his friends. They are all tortured for answers they could never have known and are eventually released after having been brutalized and humiliated in disturbing ways. When their captivity ends Marcus plans to take revenge on the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) for capturing them and not releasing their friend Darryl. His friends are scared of the repercussions of attacking a major governmental organization. Marcus spearheads an attack with followers he has collected on the internet who believe that the government cannot control our rights. The revolution he is leading is not aimed at starting an Anarchist society, but to give control back to the people, return their stolen liberty. They are trying to remind people that they don't have to deal with the security measures created for their "necessary security." They construct ways for friends to talk anonymously on the internet and create devices that confuse codes on credit cards to make the systems set up by the DHS believe an ordinary person is a terrorist. Little Brother is the best dystopian book there is and makes you realize that our liberty is slowly being consumed by over-encumbering safety measures.
